Blog 5- Lucy Vincent

I sit down on the sand watching it slip through my toes, as it slips away so does my mind. All thoughts are gone from my head. Around me I see millions of people leaving the beach; they slip on their flip flops from the heap on the sand and make their way down the path; leaving me alone with the beach. The waves crash calmly on the shore. The white water rising up close to me and then sinking back down to the big sea. Another set of waves comes in and crashes. As the water comes in to the shore, it gets closer and closer to my toes. Right before it hits me it follows its path back into the ocean. The next wave is gigantic; It over powers the whole beach. I back up to stand next to the cliff. Hiding from the wave. The tide comes in so close to me, but when it looks up and sees the thirty feet of swirled clay, clumped together behind me, it backs off.

A gust of wind passes and seems to be sucked into the water. With that final breath it turns into a huge wave. The wave isn’t afraid this time. This time, it seems to get bigger and bigger becoming more and more confident, and finally, it crashes on the side of the cliff, finding the gut to go against something so big and much more powerful and taking bits of clay and mud back with it.

I decide to walk down the beach. As I leave the section of the beach with the big waves I come across a new section. A place that seems familiar but forgotten. I haven’t been to this place for what seems like years. I see millions of people coming on to the beach as soon as I leave the calming place. With these people comes all the thoughts recently left behind. The waves start to crash rapidly. They start to come so intensely and start to crash harder and harder. There are hundreds of waves crashing roughly. Then suddenly a cloud moves over the sun and the sky turns grey.  The waves crash softly now, and slowly creep up to the shore. Small raindrops start falling from the sky. All the people leave the beach as the rain starts to come down harder. Then I run down the beach, grab my shoes off the surprisingly empty sand and sprint down the path leading to the parking lot.
